This Weymouth has a high port to allow space for the horse's tongue. This means that pressure is put on the bars of the mouth rather than the tongue when rein pressure is applied, so it is often suitable for horses with large, fleshy or sensitive tongues. The port may also act on the roof of the mouth. The sliding cheek makes the bit more mobile than a fixed cheek in the horse's mouth.
